The Light of Love is Shining Over Chardon

There are times in life when we just seem to be overwhelmed by the events of the day. We might even say they seem “surreal.” We just can’t seem to wrap our head around it. Like David in the Bible we exclaim, “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” We look for something that is more solid, stable and reliable than our own capacity provides.

Many times in my life I have found myself in deep waters, not knowing how I could manage to negotiate whatever was trying to sweep me downstream. Yet, in the darkest of those times there was always a glimmer of light to guide me out into the sunshine of a brighter day. During the past couple of weeks we have seen that, as a TV reporter observed after the Tuesday evening Prayer Vigil, “There is far more light in this community than there is darkness.”

The radiance of love and outpouring of mutual caring and support has been palpable. It is all-inclusive and unconditional. It is a manifestation of the love of God for his creation. “As a mother comforts her children, so will I comfort you,” we read in Isaiah. It is proof of God’s love for Chardon and all her people.

This universal love is a healing love that will continue to embrace and bless the whole community, including the families and students who have been impacted by recent events. The Bible tells us, “Perfect love casts out fear.” Hearts filled with love have no room for fear or torment.

The good we all have witnessed is evidence of the Love that is ongoing and ever-present. It cannot fail to bless all who mourn.
